“Techniques in Sterile Processing” is designed to prepare the student to successfully complete the International Certification Examination for CS Technician. The course provides students with information and principles upon which they may base decisions and work in the field of Central Service and Surgical Services.
The course material will include sterilization, processing, packaging, identification, inspection, handling, assembly and usage of all instrumentation. Also welcome are persons presently employed in Central Service, Operating Room, Ambulatory Surgery, and Supervisors responsible for these areas.
Sterilization is the most important department in any hospital.
This course will be taught on Saturdays starting July 10, 2021. Online! In person help is available For small groups.
Classes will be from 8:30am to Noon
every week for sixteen weeks except Holidays. We will also have class on Mondays from 6-9pm. We can schedule class during the week if there is a better time for everyon.
Because of space constraints we may
accept only the first 20 paid applicants into the first class. All students will receive a letter of acceptance. If you would like to take the class online then please contact Harley Berlant at harley824@aol.com.
A non-refundable Registration fee of $200.00 per person must be received before registration can be confirmed. All financial arrangements for the program can be madeat the first class for the Tuition fees.

There is a clinical requirement of 400 hours at a primary care facility prior to taking the International Certification examination or up to 6 months after graduation.
This course will be online. We will have a virtual meeting once a week on Saturdays. Tests will be sent to email addresses to be filled out and then emailed back for a grade. Harley Berlant will be available for help or to answer questions throughout the week.

How much is the class?
The registration is $200 and must be sent in with the application. The Tuition is $500 and can be paid off during the class.
Are there jobs available?
There are many jobs at this time. We will advise all students of recent openings at the time they become available. We are notified of openings before they are made public in open job boards. You must apply for any job you may want.
How much does career in SPD pay?Locally they pay $10 - $16 per hour for a starting salary. The pay depends on experience and the size of the hospital. Certified applicants can get more, depending on the facility and the manager. There is an annual salary survey by SterileProcessing.org on the internet.
Can I work anywhere with a certification in SPD?
It is Internationally recognized certification.

When do I need to start getting my continuing education credits for re-certification?
As soon as possible. Use a folder to save any and all educational programs you attend.
Can I get my CEU's/Points online?Yes! There are several sites to get them and many are free. You have to get them one at a time, but the major websites such as IAHCSMM.org and Sterileprocessing.org, have the most information on the subject. Some other websites for education are: SPSMedical.com and other companies such as Kimberly-Clark, KEM medical and 3M.
What if I lost my certificate?
Contact us with your graduation class, name, location and date and we will mail a copy of one out to you for $20.00.
Are all educational programs approved?
NO! Most unfortunately are not, so contact the organization ASAP and find out how to get them approved.
Harley D Berlant, PA, CRCST, CIS, CHL, has over 35 years’ experience in the field as a manager, consultant, lecturer, and author. Mr. Berlant has taught Central Service classes for over 30 years and remains active in the IAHCSMM organization. He has lectured across the country from Miami to Hawaii. He has successfully taught coursesnationally and internationally! He last worked as the Associate Administrator at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Mr. Berlant is currently a consultant living in South Florida.
